The Automobile of the 21st CenturyAutomobiles are undergoing profound transformations far beyond fuel economy improvements or gasoline-electric hybrid engines. Cars in the 21st century will be “Smarter”. They will have active safety systems, including radar on board to watch for danger; advanced navigation systems and WI-FI hookup. They will collect data; make use of onboard cameras to detect blind spots and help parents watch their children; bumpers will help drivers “see” around corners. They will respond to voice commands. They will be programmable. New manufacturing processes and materials for future automobiles are being developed, as are new fuels, and types of powertrains. As cars change, the need for fresh perspective, innovation and the imagination of youth has never been greater. |
